How to do the AI zombie trend
The trend is a tiny apocalypse film starring you and someone you love: one of you has turned into a zombie, the other cannot fight back, and the clip cuts to a happy memory. Here is how it is built and how to make your own.
What the zombie love story trend is
It started spreading on TikTok and Instagram Reels at the end of September 2026 and peaked in early October as Halloween content took over. Most clips carry the same question in the caption: would you still love me if I were a zombie?
Two ordinary photos become a vertical clip of roughly 10 to 15 seconds. The version people remake shot for shot runs longer, about 24 seconds across 16 shots, and is stitched together from separate generations in an editor.
The four story beats
Every version uses the same structure. The emotional turn comes from the cut, not from the zombie make-up.
- Standoff: a cold, grey street. The survivor faces a figure walking out of the fog.
- Recognition: it is the person they love. Tears, and the arms open instead of fighting.
- The rush: the zombie runs at them. At the moment they touch, the shot cuts.
- The memory: the same embrace, in warm golden light, both of them healthy and laughing.
Choosing your two photos
- One person per photo, face clearly visible, looking roughly at the camera.
- Waist-up works better than a close-up: the model needs shoulders and arms for the hug.
- Everyday photos make the memory scene feel real. Avoid heavy filters and sunglasses.
- Only adults who agreed to be in it, or your pet. Never children or public figures.
Way 1: make it in one step
Upload the two photos on our home page, pick the street, the memory and the length, and pay from $2.99. No sign-up. The video comes back in a few minutes with sound, vertical and ready to post.
Way 2: generate the scenes and edit them yourself
Our free prompt page has copy-ready text for this route.
- Generate the zombie scene with an image-to-video or reference-to-video model, using both photos as references.
- Generate the memory scene separately with the same two photos and a warm, sunny setting.
- In CapCut or another editor, cut from the zombie rushing forward to the memory embrace mid-motion, so the two hugs line up.
- Add a sad piano or ambient sound and the caption, then switch on the AI-generated label when you post.
Getting the match cut right
Cut while both people are still moving into the hug, not after they have settled. Keep the camera angle and screen direction the same on both sides of the cut, so the cold embrace becomes the warm one in a single frame.
Questions
What app is the zombie trend made with?
There is no single official effect. People use AI video tools with two reference photos, CapCut templates, or a one-step generator like this site.
How long should the video be?
10 to 15 seconds fits all four beats. Our default is 12 seconds; 5 seconds is enough for the hug and the memory only.
Can I do the zombie trend with my dog or cat?
Yes. Use a clear photo of your pet as the one who turns and a photo of yourself as the survivor.
